Mary as a Counsellor
Questions and Answers

What does a counsellor do?

A counsellor will
  • listen without advising
  • allow you to reflect upon what you are saying
  • help you to release painful memories or feelings.
  • not judge you
  • help you explore different options

As an integrative counsellor I will try to suit the style of counselling I use to your needs.

How much does it cost?
The initial assessment session is free.

Are concessions available?
If you are a student or unemployed there may be concessions available and we will discuss this at the assessment session.

What if I cannot make an appointment?
If I receive reasonable notice or in an emergency you will not be charged.

How long will I have to attend?
This will depend upon your issues and what you want to achieve.   I normally work on the basis of six sessions and then review at the fifth session.   Some people only need one or two meetings and you are free to drop out of counselling at any time.

Is there a contract and if so how will it affect me?
A contract is necessary so that we both feel safe.    It will set out any limits to confidentiality, the number of sessions booked and how you can contact my professional organisation if you wish to do so.

What is your professional organisation?
I am a fully qualified counsellor and an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.   I am also a Registered Independent Counsellor with UKRC – the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors.
